Suiyuan Jin (born 1997 in Linhai, China) is a Providence-based sculptor whose work pushes the boundaries of materiality and narrative. She received her BA in philosophy from Sun Yat-sen University in 2019, MA in Liberal Studies from Duke University in 2021, and MFA in Sculpture at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 2024.. She is pursuing her Ph.D in Theatre and Performance at the CUNY Graduate Center.
Born out of a deep curiosity for the intersections of myth, philosophy, post-humanism, folklore, and object-centered theater, Jin's sculptures are a testament to the intricate dance between concept and form. Her artistic journey is marked by a profound exploration of unconventional materials and techniques. She have developed a distinctive sand casting technique that marries polyurethane with recycled trash, resulting in sculptures that embody a unique blend of sustainability and innovation. Through her work, she strives to evoke a sense of wonder, encouraging viewers to reconsider familiar narratives and objects through a fresh lens. The amalgamation of myth and contemporary concerns creates a rich tapestry of storytelling within Jin's artistic practice.
